Super Experienced Team Leaders

LÁRUS HALLDÓRSSON
Managing Director

His roots are in the travel business, where he worked along with his father as an operation manager for Iceland Safari. Then one day, he was lured into television, first as a TV host but liking it more on the other end of the camera, he pursued his career as a producer. For several years he was the executive producer for a big production house in Iceland, and there he started an event department. Along with travel, that is one of his passions today. A good party with the right atmosphere, food and wine is what Larus thrives on. One of Discover Truenorth client pinpointed it right in an interview: We often require one to “produce a rabbit from the hat”, and when it comes to that, no one is better than “Lalli”.

Icelandic Water

The water quality in Iceland is exceptional. A staggering 97 percent of the population is satisfied with the water quality in Iceland, according to a recent OECD study. Icelanders are so proud of their water that non-natives, travellers and tourists alike are frequently recommended to drink straight from the streams. If the water is clear and cold, it is safe to drink.

Geothermal Water

The hot water is different. Iceland has natural hot water springs due to the geothermal activity below ground. Geothermal sources account for 66% of Iceland’s primary energy use. And geothermal water creates natural baths with high levels of silicates and other minerals which have an especially rejuvenating effect on the skin.”

Naturally rich in sulfur, the hot water smells a lot like rotten eggs or a freshly struck match. This water, although great for the skin, is not safe to drink. The tap water in Icelandic faucets provides perfectly safe drinking water although it may smell of sulfur if some hot water is still in the pipes from previous use.

Sustainability

Iceland is the world’s second most highly performing country in environmental issues. Over 99% of electricity production and almost 80% of total energy production in Iceland comes from hydropower and geothermal power. Conference venues and hotels are naturally eco-friendly. No other nation uses such a high proportion of renewable energy resources. The Icelandic government has stated an objective of making Iceland the first nation to use only renewable energy for its power in the near future according to the Icelandic National Strategy for sustainable development. Reykjavik is a global centre for renewable energy research, as universities, government departments, public and private companies all contribute.
